Optional treatments for hydrosalpinx

A hydrosalpinx is the medical name for a fallopian tube that has become filled with fluid due to injury or infection. The fallopian tubes normally function to ‘catch’ an egg each month as it is released from the ovary; the tubes are the meeting place for egg and sperm and the mechanism by which the fertilized egg travels to the uterus.

Hydrosalpinx is a problem accounting for 40% of infertile women, thus it’s extremely important for each female to know some treatment options about it.

Hydrosalpinx Treatment Options

1. Discuss the possibility of a salpingectomy with your doctor
Salpingectomy is a procedure that involves removing part of your fallopian tube. It is considered a better treatment than other laparoscopic procedures for hydrosalpinx. It’s an alternative option before an attempt at in vitro fertilization.

2. Try selective tubal cannulation
Selective tubal cannulation may be recommended by your doctor if your fallopian tube blockage is close to your uterus.

3. Consider laparoscopic surgery
A laparoscopy may be recommended by your doctor to open blocked tubes and remove any existing scar tissue if he or she thinks you are a good candidate for surgery. Laparoscopic surgery does not always work, so the decision to undergo the procedure needs to be made with your doctor’s input about the cause and extent of your blockage. Besides, you need to know that your risk of future ectopic pregnancies can be increased by this kind of surgery. If you do get pregnant after your laparoscopy, your doctor should follow your progress closely and watch for signs of an ectopic pregnancy.

4. Try herbal medicine
Herbal medicine is another alternative option for hydrosalpinx problem, such as Fuyan Pill. Unlike laparoscopy, it will not cause any physical damage. This pill is made from Chinese herbs without any side effects and drug resistance. It can unblock fallopian tubes effectively by eliminating inflammation, killing bacteria, clearing heat and promoting blood circulation etc.

5. Move on to in vitro fertilization
Generally, in vitro fertilization (IVF) is always the last consideration for becoming pregnant. IVF is a procedure that doctors fertilize an egg with sperm outside your body, then insert the resulting embryo or embryos into your uterus. This method bypasses the fallopian tubes, so blockages do not present a problem.
