Chlamydia Causes Endometriosis in Women

Chlamydia infection is one of the most common sexual transmitted disease all over the world. It transmits through vaginal, oral, or anal sex. It can be treated with antibiotics but the worst part of chlamydia infection is that it remains asymptomatic in a great number of people that remains untreated.

Symptoms caused by Chlamydia infection vary among men and women. In women, Chlamydia infection causes symptoms such as severe pain while urination, soaring pelvic region, excessive vaginal discharge, pain in the lower abdominal region, bleeding, fever and itching.

If Chlamydia is left untreated it spreads to the fallopian tubes and uterus and causes severe damage which in some cases results in infertility due to severely damaged fallopian tubes. It may also result in severe pelvic inflammatory diseases that also result in fertility problems. Another serious complication seen in women is ectopic pregnancy during which the fertile eggs get attached at a location other than the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies are very dangerous and may sometimes prove to be fatal.

Endometriosis is another complication during which the endometrium, the inner layer of the uterus shows abnormal growth resulting in premature birth of the babies and may sometimes even lead to abortion. It may also lead to infection of the outer layers of the liver which is termed as perihepatitis. The damage of endometriosis is irreversible, but the lesion can be removed by surgery or dissolved by herbal remedies.

When endometriosis occurs, endometrium grows outside the uterus in a ball shape. It can be adhesive to ovary or fallopian tube. Connecting tissues around the lesion can be affected and inflamed if endometriosis keeps growing. Irregular menses and lower abdominal pain with menses are typical symptoms of chlamydia endometriosis.

To treat endometriosis caused by chlamydia, both surgery and medication are needed if it is treated in a western way. Antibiotics with other hormone pills may be prescribed for controlling the symptoms and treat chlamydia infection for patients who don't want to undergo the surgery.
